What began in a third-grade classroom has grown into a community-wide mission to ensure no child in Central Texas feels forgotten.
It started with a simple question.
Over a decade ago, nine-year-old Charlotte Whitaker learned that some children living at the Texas Baptist Children's Home might not receive presents during the holidays. For a third-grader, this was simply unacceptable.
Instead of just feeling sad about it, she decided to do something. She organized a toy drive through her church, rallying the congregation to bring in gifts. She didn't have a foundation, a board of directors, or a strategic plan—she just had a deep conviction that every child deserves a moment of pure, uninterrupted joy.
From a congregation to a community.
That single toy drive struck a chord. The next year, it was bigger. The year after that, entire neighborhoods were participating. Fueled by a community that cared, what started as a church initiative organically evolved into an annual tradition that has delivered thousands of gifts to hundreds of families across Central Texas.
As Charlotte grew up, so did the mission. We realized that crisis doesn't have a calendar, and the need for tangible support extends far beyond December. Children transitioning into shelters need backpacks. Kids celebrating birthdays in unfamiliar surroundings need a reason to smile.
